Do you often have problems with your WLAN connections? Or do you want to squeeze the last bit of performance out of your mesh? Then you should take a look at this guide. A few simple steps - in the truest sense of the word - can make a big difference.
The quality of a radio network depends on various factors. Some of them are physical, such as the living environment. The thickness and material of the walls influence how well your devices connect to the respective access point in the WLAN. Other devices in the environment that emit radio waves also affect the connection quality, including microwaves and Bluetooth devices. Therefore, it is important that the FRITZ!Box is well positioned, if possible centrally in the middle of the flat or house.
Position the FRITZ!Box so that it is not covered by other objects and there are as few obstacles as possible between it and the other WLAN devices. Of course, this also applies to FRITZ!Repeaters. Water and metal objects are particularly strong obstacles to the propagation of radio waves, as are window panes with thermal insulation glazing.
With the FRITZ!App WLAN for Android and iOS, you can easily test the signal strength at different locations in your home. This also allows you to identify sources of interference and reposition the FRITZ!Box or WLAN devices accordingly. Also make sure that your WLAN network has an individual name. Note that you can only use the best WLAN with the latest WLAN software for all devices.
Newer FRITZ!Box models such as the FRITZ!Box 7590 AX already support the modern WLAN standard Wi-Fi 6 (WLAN AX). In addition to higher data rates and more simultaneous devices, this also ensures lower power consumption of your WLAN devices and thus increases the battery life of modern smartphones. When purchasing new WLAN devices, make sure that they support Wi-Fi 6. You can find out more about the new WLAN standard in this guide article.
